God reveals His nature in all things, and sometimes it can be something or someone that has always been present in your life. Randomly, at purposeful times, God brings it to our attention. I had a moment like that the other day. Anyone that knows Adam and I (even just a little bit) know who Lilly is in our life and how much we love her. For those that don’t know, this is her…..
She is our first-born :), and she is a light in our lives. We’ve made so many memories with her and she has provided us so much love in life. She became part of our family just a month after we were married, and has been our (esp. my) faithful companion. Her disposition is just purely precious! And anyone that knows her will say the same. Every single day, since she became a Vermillion, her personality has been a pervading spirit in our home. When I’m not around her for periods of time, I miss her and look forward to coming home to that sweet face!
From day one she’s had one particular routine that has never faltered, her greeting. When I get home, I go straight to Lilly’s play pen to let her out (yes, she has an over-sized play pen that gives her ample room to move around and play). She is usually hunkered with her butt low and tail wagging vigorously, whining with excitement to see me. When I open the door, she darts out, jumps on her hind legs to reach my face. I MUST squat to her level so that she can lick my chin. She will NOT move on with her day until she gives me a kiss. Even if I let her out, and dart to the bathroom (which is often these day…I really can’t go longer than 40 minutes without having to pee, haha), she runs at my heels and follows me to the bathroom, where yes, she kisses me as soon as I sit down on the potty (TMI, I know), but that’s really how necessary it is that she kisses me when I get home.
Since I’m normally home before Adam, her routine with him is a little different but no less enthusiastic. As part of her super-dog powers, she can hear Adam’s car as soon as he turns on our road. She 99% of the time knows that he is home before I do. Whatever she is doing gets dropped as she stands at attention, staring at the door. As soon as she hears the car door open and shut, she begins a litany of whining, barking, and crying with excitement. Her tails wags at 90 MPH, and she jumps two feet high at the door until he reaches the knob and opens it. Once the gate is open, she darts out and jumps up his legs until he bends to pick her up. For whatever reason, she doesn’t kiss Adam often, but she expects him to give her one…haha smart girl. He usually gives her a quick kiss on the top of hear head, and off she goes. Darting around the house in pure elation that we are all back together.
It’s truly endearing and makes us both smile ear to ear.
God made this little being that can feel and express so much love. We are so blessed He gave her to us because she has shown us so much. And all that hit me the other night, when I couldn’t sleep of course.
I want to be like Lilly.
- Loves unabashed
All of these describe who she is. And it made me wide-eyed and alert to have a light-bulb moment when thinking of those descriptions because doesn’t that describe our Lord?!
Lilly in her “simple” existence as an animal, reflects the nature of Christ (He is in everything)….WOW! And what lessons she can teach me…
Everyday she is overjoyed to be alive, nothing dictates or dissipates her happy disposition about having another day to roam the Earth. She is content in the simplicity of her life, never vying for something more. Her days are focused on showing love, pleasing her “masters”, and being herself. She is humble in nature, never wanting to draw the wrong attention to herself or disappoint. Her protectiveness and natural instinct to shield us and herself never falters. When we are sick or something is “off”, she knows and tries to empathize with us. She loves us unconditionally and her excitement cannot be contained when she is with us.
And that’s how I want to be. Why? Because I am so loved and taken care of by the Lord. Lilly’s days are filled with so much joy, simply because she is alive. And how much more could I be like that by having the understanding of Christ, how much deeper my joy could be?!
Life doesn’t have to be over-complicated and comprised of a thousand responsibilities, activities, and strategies. Have goals, manage them, and most importantly give them to The Lord! Prayerfully seek His will, and go throughout the day rested and assured that His plan for your life has a greater purpose than your imagination.
I want to be focused on growing in my relationship with God each day, putting Him first, and seeing the day has an opportunity to live fully, show love, and experience the goodness that God has provided to me!!
I want to be like Lilly! Who or what has shown you the nature of Christ??
