Don’t Let Go of Your God-given Dream
Maybe you’ve abandoned a precious dream. Buried it under shame brought on by others’ judgment about its worthiness or feel it just “isn’t in the cards” for you.
And even more, we sometimes have dreams that aren’t even ours and are simply copied from others (ehemmm, go listen to last week’s episode). We can find ourselves chasing something we don’t even really want or fits who we are.
Your dream either lives in the dark or you’ve stopped considering at all OR you aren’t even sure what it is.

The Truth That Will Redeem Your God-Given Dream
What if your dream isn’t typical or traditional? That doesn’t mean it’s stupid. What if God gave you that dream so He can magnify His glory? What if He always had huge plans for that dream? Even if you can’t see His purpose in it yet.

Dreaming can get lost in the far away parts of our minds. For me, there was a sudden grief of loss almost when I got smacked in the face with hating my career choice. My dream (ideal life) was not going to be my reality.
We often believe the lie that our dreams aren’t going to happen, that our dreams are far-fetched or not part of our story anymore, or we feel completely confounded when what we thought was our dream, turns out to not be.
New Hope For Your God-Given Dreams
But there is HOPE. Hope for what God has planned for you. And the hope rests in the truth that our dreams are NOT concrete and the truth that NOTHING is a surprise to God.
1. God’s Grace Abounds
For thus says the Lord: When seventy years are completed for Babylon, I will visit you, and I will fulfill to you my promise and bring you back to this place. For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.
JEREMIAH 29:10-11
Maybe like me, the dream you had turns out NOT to be what you truly want and this leaves you feeling like there is nothing left in the moment to do because you feel lost about what’s next. But what we are told in Jeremiah, we know God has plans for us. We are not lost, roaming sheep. And it may take SEVENTY YEARS!
On the other hand, we can believe that our dream just isn’t possible because based on current circumstances, it seems too far removed from our reality.
It’s hard to dream when it seems that there is nothing lining up towards it taking place. But God doesn’t place in our hearts something we are passionate about for no reason!
2. Jesus Redeems It All
Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.
JEREMIAH 29:12-13
We can be wrapped up in the dreams of others, whether by our own choice or the nurturing of others’ influence in our lives. Living up to expectations, and most typically end with falling short. Expectations tend to be ideals. And those don’t often play out how we believe.
When this combines the need to people-please or stroke our own egos against the status of others, we fall into the trap of living out someone else’s dream or chasing something that God didn’t design for us to do.
But there is Good news! When you turn back to God, you find a true relationship with Him through Jesus. And when Christ redeems you, He also redeems your buried dream for the Father’s plan.
3. Your Hope-Filled Future
I will be found by you, declares the Lord, and I will restore your fortunes and gather you from all the nations and all the places where I have driven you, declares the Lord, and I will bring you back to the place from which I sent you into exile.
JEREMIAH 29:14
He promises to restore you, which He does through the power of the Holy Spirit. So now your future is filled with hope because of His goodness.
And those fortunes He mentions? They include the dream you buried, lost, or didn’t know to begin with.
How To Hang Onto Your God-Given Dream
In Jeremiah 29:8-9 we are given sage wisdom when it comes to dreaming…
For thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Do not let your prophets and your diviners who are among you deceive you, and do not listen to the dreams that they dream, for it is a lie that they are prophesying to you in my name; I did not send them, declares the Lord.
JEREMIAH 29:8-9
It’s very easy to miss. But do you see the warning there?
God literally tells you not to get sidetracked from His plans for you by following other people’s dreams.
Which may be exactly what caused you to abandon your God-given dream and bury it, or expect a certain outcome from it that was not what you expected. I’ve had dreams about one thing and in the process of pursuing that, realize there is something else that fits better.
Don’t buy lie that your God-given dream is unrealistic or inferior or “not in the cards’.
- What God-given dream have you buried?
- What gift aren’t you sharing with the world because of the lie that your dream is stupid and has no value?
- What’s your community or the world missing because you are choosing to ignore the dream you have?
- What possibilities can become certainties, if you dig your dream out and make steps TOWARD it coming true?
- Does God have limits?
Sometimes, we have to understand that we can’t see ALL THE PIECES at all times. We don’t know what is happening in the background of our own lives to create the dreams we have. God is omniscient and He has plans for us, EVEN in the slow, burnt out, and unknowing times.
Don’t Stay Sidetracked From Your God-Given Dream
There is joy from trusting His vision for my life over others’ expectations and my own. And you know what? With prayer and faith in God, I’ll never bury my dreams again.
Will you?

This is such an encouraging reminder. Waiting is so hard, especially when things like biological clocks are ticking. But all in His time. <3
Yes! Waiting is such a discipline, and I’ve found that the closest I can draw to God the easier it is to handle. The biological clock creates a real pressure, and I understand all too well. Praying for you and His perfect intercession!
