Emotional health is a major contributor to overall well-being because it is the thing that triggers your brain, controls your limiting beliefs, and causes action. The last topic here was about self care , and a LARGE part of taking care of ourselves relies on our emotions.
Working on personal development requires mindset work, and when your mindset is strong, you can have more control over your emotions. A lot of mindset work, requires to train your brain to react differently than it has been.
To be able to recognize how you normally react, you have to recognize the things that trigger you to change your actions. Limiting beliefs, fear, decisions, motivations >>>> there are so many things to consider. The biggest shift for myself required that I understand what I knew I needed to change, and what I really want to succeed at. Once, I had a goal there was a pathway I could work on.
Emotions are a reflection of how we are handling day to day life. Therefore, we have to be aware of what changes how we feel. Take an inventory.
Keep It Simple
When I say take an inventory, this doesn’t have to be arduous, just start with the basics.
- Try to be conscious of what puts you in a bad mood
- What puts you in a good mood throughout the day
- What are your points of pain (consistent aggravations, road blocks)
- What gives you excited energy
Most of the day will be spent at neutral because statistically around 90% of our days are completely repetitive of the day before >>> isn’t that CRAZY?! So picking out the things that bring on negative or positive emotions should be easy to pinpoint.
Jotting down those moments will help bring clarity on what you could change or add more of. Life isn’t perfect and of course, there will be not so happy moments, but the idea here is to do what you can do in your daily life to help you build a positive perspective and outlook. LIMIT THE NEGATIVE OR CHANGE HOW YOU FEEL ABOUT THEM!
The Health of It All
Emotions can be mitigated largely by our mindset, and we are in control of them. We can chose how to react, which can help us keep a healthy outlook.
The biggest way to help your response to circumstances comes from your own self confidence. Words hurt regardless, but you can decide whether you will believe it, or leave it.
That’s the filter with which I chose to handle things. I’m in control of what I want to “use”. We should all be receptive to criticism, but only if its constructive. And with constructive criticism, you can either chose to use or not.
You need to get in the practice of asking >> does this serve me right now? If not, leave it. If so, do what you need to with it.
In response to a positive or negative trigger, you can decide, am I going to believe it or leave it? Asking that can easily help you let go of the emotion that follows.
This can be applied to any encounter or interaction. Easily invest or not in that emotion so that you can move forward with or without it.
Having this perspective can help you shift your thoughts about it, and therefore control your emotions attached to it.
THOUGHTS CONTROL EMOTIONS!
FEEL ALL THE THINGS
The KEY here is to NOT STUFF, recognize and then CHOOSE WHAT TO DO WITH IT. Use it or leave it. This mantra can help you understand how you are feeling, and then what you now want to do with it.
Take Care of Yourself
A lynch pin to emotional health most people want to glaze over is PHYSICAL HEALTH! I hate to say it, but YOU HAVE TO TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF physically to be mentally healthy >>> which allows you to truly do the mindset work that will bring you emotional health as well. It’s a tri-fecta!
Live as organically as you can. Don’t allow food to be a crutch (unless its healthy 😉 of course ) and push your body to be active REGULARLY! No more being the person that “hates to workout” >>> hard truth, GET OVER IT! Our bodies were made for movement, no excuse!
