WHO are you? Question, I often ask myself. Honestly, despite having many responsibilities, and passions >>> I STILL find myself wondering WHO AM I? WHAT IS MY PURPOSE? IS THIS MY LIFE? WHAT WILL I THINK IN THE END? Finding your purpose, it’s a nagging consuming thought.
How Do We DISCOVER It
Finding your purpose is a process. There isn’t a one shot answer. The reason is because you will have many purposes in life. There will be seasons where certain elements will be the priority. Whether it’s a job, parenting, taking care of loved ones, slowing down to take care of yourself, giving to others, or focusing on a project, life will continually be shifting to include situations that enter our lives. What God lays before you deserves your attention. That’s a hard fact for me. One, because I don’t like being forced into anything >> I’m not a follower, eeeekkkk, hard for me to admit, but true >>> Don’t tell me what to do! haha, payback is hard when you birth a carbon copy of yourself >>> grace and mercy abound #prayingmama. SO, sometimes (often) I have to check myself because I want to do what I want, focus on what fuels me >>> but what starts happening with that self-focus is discontentment because I am convicted by the spirit inside of me to not neglect what’s right in front of me. Little bit of a tangent, but one I think someone else needed to hear.
Be present. End of story. Do your best at what’s right in front of you. When you’re doing your best, so many pathways open whether its heartwise or circumstantial. God is the master creator, and He has designed experiences to mold and shape you, so lean in even when it’s difficult, even when you feel lost >> keep Him in focus and what needs to be revealed will be.
What to focus on
With God in the front, you can live freely to do the work that’s right there now knowing that it’s working together for His good, which is ultimately your good.
If you are struggling with being unhappy, depressed, anxious >>>listen to me, something is brewing. It’s in these moments of chaos and uncomfortableness that we tend to think differently, analyze, and get creative >>> that’s not by accident. SELF-EVALUATE! Pray for God’s revelation to you, and for His strength. When you call on your Father, He ALWAYS ANSWERS! Don’t try to control the outcome. Patience, it’s KEY during these seasons.
Understand that literally NOTHING on this Earth, in our world is forever. The only thing forever is eternity with Christ. When you can recognize that change, and that our journeys on Earth are forever changing, we can recognize that everything has a season, and our purpose is to be here now.
So now that we have mindset established….
What do we do with our lives
We live our lives BOLDLY. Sometimes you will hear the words purpose and calling interchangeably. But in my mind, they are TOTALLY different.
Our purpose is what we do day-in and day-out. It’s what we’ve got going right now that’s making up how our time is spent. And that self-evaluation I mentioned above is required because it makes sense of what we are doing well, not well, and what we dream to be doing.
Calling, this is what our life’s work is comprised of >> it’s our legacy, it’s what is left of us when we no longer live and breathe here on this side of Heaven. Some people don’t accomplish their calling until their death bed, where everything converges in that moment to give them the wisest words they’ve every spoken to those supporting them while they leave this earth. WOW, hard to hear I know, but it’s true. We are called to be loving children of God, and our lives are a vessel to love Him deeply, love others deeply, and leave those we encounter better than they were before they met us. We are light to this world, and that is our calling. And when we are living out our calling, that’s the result >>> a legacy, and a life with little regret that left a mark not matter how big or small. Not an easy life, a hard fought one, but for good reason.
Get real with yourself:
- What is not working
- What is working
- What builds you up
- What tears you down
You know the answers to these questions if you take the time to think about them. These answers give you insight to what skills and gifts God has uniquely made you with. It helps you evaluate what your pitfalls are and what you excel at.
Once you’ve got your answers >>> start taking action. Begin with prayer, pray for God’s will to be done and for wisdom to seek and decide according to His will for your life. One of the darkest times in my life, I cried and prayed all the way to work and back home. It was so cleansing and freeing to know that I could bare all the hurt and strife I had felt all day working in a career I hated, knowing that He was there, and that He would answer me.
As you’re seeking Him, and working hard to do your best each day, change will happen. Little things like deciding to read a particular book, or reaching out to a friend that speaks life into you that makes a lightbulb turn on, or changing up your health routine to give you mental clarity >>> all these 1 degree deviations will start to occur that will set in motion a brand new pathway. God is always at work.
Your purpose and calling makeup your entire life, it’s time to take action and not waste time. Be intentional, work at it! Don’t let life just happen to you, we are meant for so much! Each one of us with a specific reason for being put here, now, and in the set of circumstances we’ve already lived, are living now, and will live.
