The reason self care matters is because we are NOT our best in our daily life when we pour from an empty cup. If we are pouring from an empty cup, we are not being intentional or present because we can’t acknowledge fully what is happening. When we are confident in ourselves, taking care of our bodies, and staying aware of how we are dealing with circumstances >> we can REALLY feel the importance of self care.
Self care is a hot topic because in today’s culture it’s all about self preservation. Self preservation, against popular belief, is NOT how to live a well life. The more self centered life you lead, the more isolated you become.
We aren’t meant to obtain all we can for ourselves, but rather live to pour into others. BUT, a huge part of giving does require having something to give, which can only be accomplished if we are working to become better and more whole thru the love of Christ, and the intention we have with our time and energy.
When we care for ourselves in fulfilling ways (or work on decreasing bad habits), we can live more intentionally because we have the energy, mental capacity, and perspective of what truly matters and what presently is in front of us.

Take An Inventory
We HAVE to take inventory of ourselves and understand what makes us “tick”. What gives you excitement? What brings rest and recharge? What stimulates creativity and positive energy? And what healthy habits contribute to our overall well-being?
- Understand the limiting beliefs you have about yourself.
- Make the time to care for yourself physically >> read my 5 tips here
- Take the time to assess how you’re feeling presently (i.e. pray, journal everyday, communicate with those closest to you).
- Recognize what you love to do (i.e. hike, read, paint, coffee dates with friend, Bible study, running).
All of these elements converge to allow you to experience life in a more full manner because you are present in your everyday, and give your best to what you are facing.
Just like everything in life, If you want to have good results, you have to put in the work.
We ALL have areas to work on and things to keep in check. So, we must contribute our time and prioritize it wholeheartedly. You’re only guaranteed right now, so why not feel and be your best ?
